The SNES Classic Lineup Is Great!

90’s kids across the globe had their dues paid this week, when the SNES/Super Famicom classic was finally confirmed. Following the impressive success of the NES classic, the SNES classic is likely to be just as coveted, if not more. Nostalgic value aside, the Super Nintendo also brought us games with an increased level of sophistication compared to its predecessor. Being able to revisit titles like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Secret of Mana on your HD TV is enticing to say the least. Additionally, the unreleased Star Fox 2 will also be joining the lineup.

Here’s the full list of games that will be readily available on the mini console:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • EarthBound
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
  • Mega Man X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox
  • Star Fox 2 (what!?)
  • Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV
  • Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts
  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
  • Super Mario World
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • Yoshi’s Island

This sweet little number is going to be launching in September with a price tag of $80. That’s not bad considering the beefy list above. Compared to the NES Classic’s library, I’m already seeing a lot more value. Still, the lack of availability of the NES classic leaves a lot of room for concern. Let’s hope Nintendo doesn’t pull the rug out from under us this time.
