As we travel further down the rails of this crazy train that is the Nintendo Switch launch, I find myself constantly eating my words from earlier last year. The Switch, while not without its fundamental problems, continues to overload its game library with exciting and fitting entries, both new and old. I really thought the old part was going to bother me, when in fact, it’s turning out to be one of the most charming aspects of the system. Nintendo is actively driving their point of: wouldn’t you rather be able to play a these games on the go too? Yes, Nintendo, I would like that very much.

Well if you weren’t already impressed enough with Skyrim, L.A. Noire, Doom, Wolfenstein, Payday, and Mario Kart 8, get ready for DARK SOULS!!! That’s right, Nintendo announced today their list of 2018 releases that are right around the corner, including:

  • The World Ends With You: Final Remix
  • Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
  • Hyrule Warriors
  • Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
  • Dark Souls Remastered

Put aside the fact that I’ve been nagging for a remaster of the first Dark Souls since Dark Souls 2 released, but now you’re telling me that I’ll get to experience that long awaited upgrade on my Switch!? I tip my hat to you Nintendo, and I tip my hat to you From Software. How ironic is it that these two companies, who have made it their sole mission to drive their dedicated fans into madness, finally collaborated to bring us something special? Sleep with one eye open everyone, there may be some sinister elements at play here.

After a bit more perusing, I also discovered that the remaster will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with the possibility of Dark Souls 2 & 3 eventually getting a remaster for those platforms as well (who knows). This tears me down the middle a bit, since I always imagined the remastered version on my PC, with a smooth frame-rate and responsive engine. I’m sure the Switch version will be a significant improvement over the clunky, low-res original, but I hardly think I’ll be able to hold myself back from picking up the game for both. Praise the sun!
